Hi everybody, and welcome to a new NIL-Tech drawing tutorial : "Martin Luther King Jr". One of the essential figures in the American Civil Rights Movement is none other than social activist and humanitarian, Martin Luther King Jr. A Baptist minister influenced by other advocates of nonviolence, King encouraged oppressed and socially disadvantaged African-Americans to fight for equal rights through peaceful protests.

Here are some interesting facts about Martin Luther King Jr:

1. King's birth name was Michael, not Martin. The civil rights leader was born Michael King Jr. on January 15, 1929. In 1934, however, his father, a priest at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany was inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. Consequently, King Sr. altered his own name along with his 5-year-old child's.

2. King was imprisoned almost 30 times. According to the King Center, the civil liberties leader went to jail 29 times. He was detained for acts of civil disobedience and also on trumped-up charges, such as when he was imprisoned in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1956 for driving 30 miles per hr in a 25-mile-per-hour area.

3. George Washington is the only other American to have had his birthday observed as a national holiday. In 1983 President Ronald Reagan signed a bill that created a federal holiday to admire King. The holiday initially commemorated in 1986, is celebrated on the third Monday in January, close to the civil liberties leader's January 15 birthday celebration.

4. King was granted 20 honorary degrees and also was called Man of the Year by Time magazine. Throughout his lifetime, he received 20 honorary degrees from colleges and universities throughout the United States as well as around the world. In 1963, he became the first African-American to be called Time magazine's Man of the Year. The homage included a photograph on the cover and a seven-page article, including several images of the most unforgettable moments of his career, such as meeting with President Lyndon B. Johnson and his 1963 arrest in Alabama.

5. There are approximately 900 streets named after Martin Luther King Jr. in the U.S. According to the head of the geography department at the College of Tennessee, there are around 900 streets named after King in the U.S. After his assassination in 1968, cities throughout the country started naming and renaming roads in his honor. Also, countries such as Italy and Israel followed suit. The number of streets raises each year, with 70 percent in Southern states: Alabama, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, and North Carolina.

Step 1. Outline the contours of the face. Draw the auxiliary lines for drawing the face, and the basis for the physical form (pencil B).

Step 3. Add volume to the text (pencil 2B).

learn to draw Martin Luther King Jr easyStep 4. Eraser excess lines. Draw the details: the tie, ear, eyes, nose, eyebrow, mustache. Add shadows on the mouse and mustache, eyebrows, hair, clothes, and face, as in the example above (pencil 5B).

Step 5. Outline the contours with a well-sharpened pencil, erase the excess lines. Add the remaining shadows, as in the example above (pencil 5B).
